Genetic testing

A genetic test can confirm if someone has chronic granulomatous disease (CGD).

CGD is a genetic condition that is passed down through family genes. Each gene has a specific role in the body. People living with CGD have a gene that isn’t working the right way which causes their immune system to work incorrectly. A genetic test can confirm if you have inherited that gene and CGD. Results of a genetic test will only be shared with the person tested and their doctor.

There are 3 possible genetic test results:

The person carries a change in their gene that is known to cause CGD.

The test did not find a change in the person’s genes that causes CGD. However, if that person is still experiencing health problems, their doctor may recommend further testing.

The test found a change in the person’s genes, but it is not known whether the specific change causes CGD. In this case, the doctor may want to order additional testing.

No-cost genetic tests are available

Talk to your doctor to learn if genetic testing for CGD is right for you. Genetic testing must be ordered through your doctor. Amgen offers genetic testing free of charge through the ID-CGD Genetic Testing Program.
